Saint-Cirq Lapopie is so pretty that it can get overrun with day trippers during the season. Hence it makes a lot of sense to stay overnight so that you can savour this spectacular, hillside location at its most peaceful.
The village, however, has only one tiny hotel and its eight small, simply furnished rooms - all recently refurbished with sparkling new bathrooms - are much in demand. But, if you are lucky, you could be savouring a pre-dinner apéritif on the little terrace in front of the hotel and wondering if life could get any better than this.
Remember that the narrow streets and quaint alleyways are steep - very steep. There's a (payable) car park above the village but it is free for Sombral guests. Do try to stay on a Friday or Saturday night when you can appreciate the chef/patron's excellent set menu. On other evenings, there are a couple of OK bistros within walking distance.
The Sombral is very much a family affair. Fresh orange juice at breakfast, log fire blazing in the hearth and a smile when you arrive just to show that they care. And their prices are exceptionally reasonable. A little place to treasure.
