The Cour de Rémi has a welcome dollop of eccentricity, coupled with good food, big comfy beds and enticingly reasonable prices.   It's the inspiration of Sébastien de la Borde and his brother Balthazar who, with craftsmen from the village and friends with artisan skills, set about converting the outbuildings of the family château to create a distinctly original small hotel.

The cuisine wins high praise for its honesty. Interesting and innovative dishes feature on the menu, enhanced by a carefully chosen wine list which avoids exaggerated mark ups.

Evidently the brothers had most fun with the accommodation, particularly the bathrooms. One has a bath almost big enough for a soccer team while another lines up his'n'hers baths head to tail.   Brilliant!   The rooms themselves are generally huge with keen attention to detail in the decor, linen and fittings.   The biggest surprise awaits those who book la chambre perchée, a wooden structure with its own terrace suspended high up in a sycamore tree.

The Cour de Rémi is perfect as a stopover or as a romantic bolt-hole for a long week-end deep in French countryside.   It's a breath of fresh air and is guaranteed to lift the spirits.
