A haven of peace set amongst vineyards to the east of the Gironde estuary, the Closerie des Vignes has few pretentions. Generously sized bedrooms are comfortable, up-to-date and unfussy - nothing to jar the serenity of the ensemble.
Likewise the cuisine which embraces all that's good and seasonal from local suppliers; don't expect a wide choice but relish instead the commitment to freshly prepared dishes enhanced by a light, feminine touch. Understandably the wine list concentrates on the cellars of the neighbouring Côtes de Blaye and Côtes de Bourg but remember that the Médoc peninsula is only a short ferry ride across the river.
Here in St-Ciers, however, a beguiling calm prevails. Simple pleasures, sensible prices, genuine hospitality. Sounds OK?
