Here we have the French Riviera at its most affordable. Yet what sets the Eden head and shoulders above its peers is not so much the reasonable prices but rather the exceptional kindness of the hotel's owner and her family - three generations at the last count! A mine of information about where to go and how to get there, Patricia is one of those lovely people who go the extra mile for their lucky guests. Off to the beach? It's only five minutes' walk and why not borrow beach mats and a parasol - all at no extra charge. Taxi to the airport? OK, but the express bus stops nearby and will save your precious €€. The nearby train station is handy for longer trips - eg to the Ventimiglia and Bordighera markets, just across the Italian border.
Breakfast is simple, traditional and, for once, cheap. Take it indoors or out on the pretty terrace beneath the pergola. Except for singles and the large family room at the rear, all the simply furnished accommodation has a sea view which improves the higher you climb - remember, however, that there are four floors and no lift. And allow, too, for a certain amount of noise from the street below.
