Five minutes on the ferry from Baden takes you to the different world that is the Ile-aux-Moines.
The Vermynck family have plied the passage across the Golfe de Morbihan for many years - first as holidaymakers and now as 'patrons' of Le San Francisco, an intimate hotel which the parents run with their daughters. Their good humour extends to their team of young staff as well as to their guests who relish the location just above the harbour as much as the simple, delectable cuisine. Understandably fruits de mer are the speciality here. Dinner is especially memorable when taken at a candle-lit table on the terrace overlooking the little port - magical at sunset.
Book early as there are so few rooms, most of which have been restyled in up-to-the-minute clapboard. Explore the island on foot (there are good marked paths) or hire a bike to make the most of this enchanting setting.
