Here’s a Relais & Châteaux hotel that gives good value for money. Every aspect of the hospitality at the serene Levernois comes in for high praise; but what sets it apart from its peers is the dedication of a highly motivated team, led by Jean-Louis and Susanne Bottigliero, the enthusiastic owners.
The balance is just right. Service is ultra-professional - and yet respectfully friendly with no trace of pomposity. Cuisine in the Michelin-starred restaurant is difficult to fault, supported of course by a remarkable wine list. Be sure to order a little cheese with your dinner – you will be amazed by the variety on offer. The hotel’s pretty waterside bistrot – now open for dinner (Thursday - Monday) as well as lunch - offers rustic chic and inexpensive menus.
The accommodations are split between the handsome 19th century gentilhommière and a couple of other buildings. Most of the bedrooms are spacious, restful and individually designed with excellent bathrooms. The hotel is set in the 13 acres of parkland, crossed by wide, tree-lined avenues and softened by a gently babbling brook. The formal gardens are laid out in classic French style with immaculately clipped box and yew.
With the Côte de Beaune vineyards practically on the doorstep and an 18 hole golf course within walking distance, Levernois is, for many, heaven on earth.
