Villa Victoria is our preferred 3 star option in Nice. A handsome townhouse in a safe, residential area, the hotel is about 5 - 10 minutes’ flat walk from the sea and a little further to old town.
Inside, the spacious, ‘feel-good’ reception area has an open-plan bar that doubles as a serving table for the buffet breakfast. Accomodations are smart, light and well-maintained but the décor is a tad unremarkable. So what sets the Villa Victoria apart from its peers?
First and foremost it’s the sizeable garden. A colourful haven with roses, bougainvillea, a gazebo and lots of shady corners; it’s a welcome escape from a city that never seems to sleep. Garden-side bedrooms are priced slightly higher than those at the front which, although double-glazed, may suffer from minor traffic noise. Enquire when booking if there’s a balcony room available (no further supplement) and don’t forget to reserve one of the hotel’s five (payable) spaces for your car if you drive.
Aside from the garden, the hotel’s other trump card is its staff. Their little extra touches are appreciated: trouser presses in every room, umbrellas if it happens to rain and oranges if you prefer to squeeze yourself a pressée for breakfast.
