In a remote spot above the Aveyron gorges, this picturesque bastide village was founded in the 13th century. It nestles below a fortress (now a ruin) but in medieval times the hilltop site was nigh-on impregnable, thanks to its setting on a hairpin meander of the River Aveyron.

What a pleasure it is to return to this delightful Logis de France hotel at the head of a square bordered by timber-framed houses. Owned and managed with great passion by Rémy Simon, the hotel has an interesting wine list; service and exceptional value for money are also singled out for praise.

Half-board guests enjoy an interestingly varied, no-choice menu and the food is presented with great artistry. Indeed the innovative cuisine is likely to be the highlight of your stay at this auberge, based as it is on the gastronomic delicacies of the Aveyron region. Ask Rémy to show you his kitchen garden, across the road from the hotel and clearly his pride and joy. The restaurant, with rustic décor, is popular locally and there is a terrace for meals in summer. Breakfast includes home-made jams, yogurt and very good bread.

The bedrooms are small but mostly quite comfortable. They overlook the village (quiet at night) or the garden, a peaceful retreat for reading or a post-prandial snooze.
