If you find yourselves in Lorraine and enjoy the Relais and Châteaux lifestyle, you will be delighted with this 18th century turreted property. It stands on the outskirts of Lunéville in a 17 acre parc which is perfect for a pre- or post-prandial stroll to admire the ducks and geese in the moat. The swimming pool is nicely-sheltered but unheated.

The elegant accommodations are split between the handsome château and a couple of outbuildings. We liked the duplexes in the former maison du vigneron but some of the other rooms also share their sunny, Provencal decor. Beds are vast and wonderfully comfortable. All the bathrooms are state-of-the-art so choose the room that best suits your budget.

Cyril Leclerc is the chef – he is the son-in-law of the amiable owner, Michel Million. The main restaurant maintains a very high standard (Michelin star) with an imaginative fusion of top quality ingredients. The perennial problem here is that, if your stay coincides with the Monday closure or if you don’t fancy eating Michelin star cuisine at Michelin star prices two nights in a row, you’re stuck with a two mile drive into Lunéville to find an alternative. This is because the cheaper ‘Version A’ bistro is a contemporary, glass-walled room open only for lunch (Wed – Fri). The hotel recognises the problem by offering a very competitively priced dinner menu on weekdays (see table).
