LE MAS DES ROMARINS, GORDES

The Mas des Romarins is a pretty little base from which to fall in love with one of the most spectacular of all the hill villages in Provence. At sunrise and sunset, there are dreamy views from the hotel’s terrace towards the historic château that dominates the higgledy-piggledy houses.

Gordes has become a chic destination so you’ll need to book early to get one of the rooms with that view. Other recently-renovated accommodations have terraces, often looking out onto the scented garden that spills down the hillside. Look for its secret, hidden corners as well as for the short cut to the village – it's only five minutes away on foot.

There is a wide choice of places to eat in Gordes but the hotel itself offers a ‘table d’hôte’ dinner. This means a no-choice, good value menu served to residents only at separate tables either inside or out on the terrace. The cuisine is much appreciated for its finesse.

Choose the Mas des Romarins, therefore, if you like old buildings, sensitively brought up to date for today’s exacting travellers; the bedrooms are actually split between the 19th century stone mas and its atelier just across the garden. Choose it also to be sure of a warm welcome, delectable fare and an intimate ambience. But choose it above all because it’s the only hotel which has that magnificent, unforgettable view.
