Here’s a pretty, flower-bedecked little hotel that sits a few hundred metres from one of the curiosities of the Alps. The gorge that gives the hotel its name is accessed by a fairly easy man-made footpath that climbs between its sheer walls. Views of the cascades are at their most dramatic from the rustic suspension bridges that span the chasm. The whole set up has an awesome tranquillity.
The hotel itself sits on the edge of the charming small village of Servoz, high above the fast-track roads that connect Sallanches with Chamonix. All the accommodations have been modernised recently with that standard ‘contemporary Alpine’ look.
Pride of place, however, goes to the restaurant with its Mont Blanc views and flowery terrace for summer dining. Cuisine by Marc Serres, the young chef patron, is generous and bang up to date while remaining faithful to the local terroir. Michelin awarded him the coveted Bib Gourmand in 2010 in recognition of the terrific value offered by his menu saveur et découverte.
