A Logis de France in the best tradition, the Beaufrays’ hotel stands on a busy road in a small town a few short miles from the Beaune – Lyon motorway. If the unprepossessing exterior suggests that you should keep on driving, you would be doing yourself a disservice on three counts.

Firstly you would not have ventured to the back of the hotel to find the quieter annexe rooms. These overlook the garden where fortunate customers dine in summer under the shade of a 200 year old plane tree. Even the rooms in the main building have been recently renovated and now have air-conditioning.

Secondly you would squander the opportunity of complementing Jean-François Beaufrays (a Maître Cuisinier de France) on his cooking. His incredibly good value menus are influenced by his extensive travels and by the local Bresse region which is renowned for its exceptional poultry - viz: La cuisse de poulet de Bresse cuite en cocotte à l'ail en chemise, jus réduit au vinaigre, champignons, de pomme de terre.

And lastly you would not have had the pleasure of meeting Mme Beaufays who runs the show with a confident smile and genuine warmth. If you need any more persuading to linger awhile, Cuisery is a book town with a fair on the first Sunday of the month in season.
