At last, in this habitually over-priced area, a recently renovated hotel that provides excellent value for money. The Hermitage stands in an elevated position on the Grande Corniche, the highest of the three scenically spectacular roads that link Nice with Monaco. It’s a charming hotel that comes as a breath of fresh air away from the congestion that usually chokes the coastal resorts and from the coach loads that clog up medieval Eze Village.
South-facing accommodations look over the Corniche towards the Med, some with decent-sized terraces. Garden-side rooms have even more impressive views. Don’t expect spacious rooms at such moderate prices but rejoice instead at the classic, stylish décor - full of original little touches that are typical of such caring, welcoming owners who have recently renovated the hotel. The area is a walkers’ paradise and breathtaking footpaths lead directly from the hotel.
Stay put and you can always find a quiet spot in the garden or on the terrace beside the smallish pool. (At 400m above sea level, the water might be chilly out of season.) If you venture further afield, use the efficient bus and train links instead of the car.
