HOTEL SAINT VINCENT, PARIS

The Saint Vincent is a gem of an hotel tucked away in a quiet and charming street just north of the Boulevard St-Germain. This is a nigh-on perfect location if you like browsing in art galleries and antique shops, particularly if your visit coincides with the twice-yearly ‘open-house evenings’ coordinated by their association (www.carrerivegauche.com for details). But the ambience of this historic Left Bank quarter is delightful whatever the season and all the most important sights are within walking distance.

The Saint Vincent is an 18th century hôtel particulier that has been exquisitely renovated to provide a small number of light bedrooms, decked out mainly in Napoléon III style. The elegant superior accommodations for two people are reasonably spacious, supremely comfortable and served by a decent-sized lift. Lamps, candles and a large stone fireplace create a welcoming ambience in the lobby/salon where drinks are available 24/7. The predominant colour palette is the usual boutique-hotel mix of cream, beige and chocolate but there is sufficient variety and originality to match your every mood.

It’s difficult to think of a way that the hotel could be improved. Suffice to it to say that, if you seek a romantic, atmospheric and wonderfully relaxing base amid friendly, civilised people in an intimate, inspiring area of central Paris, the Saint Vincent should surpass your expectations.
